Clan Cameron in Scotland - Stone Mountain, GA.
2001

.......The thing was to get an airplane....., and that was on a 767 from BRITISH AIRLINES, like the ROSIE ........ one on the left.
.......As a matter of fact, it was the one on the left (a Boeing 767) and it was named "ROSIE".
........Go Figure, at any rate we finally got to roll at 6:30pm that evening. From then on, we smiled, laughed, told some bad jokes and slept until we flew into London's Gatwick Airport. After a short 1-1/2hr layover, we got onto a 737 and flew into Glasgow Airport. From there we picked up our prebooked car and it was a short, and pleasant, trip of about an hour into the heart of Ft.William, Scotland.

.---------------------------------------------

This is the first look at the gates of the Estate's of the Locheil. It was made for the Locheil by Mr. George Beasley (of the Stone Mountain branch). He made it while he was an instructor at the University of Edinbourgh. ------------------------------------------------

And this is the Estate.
Talk about Glorious!

-------------------------------------------

This is the first weekend in August, 2001 and what are we wearing? Coats! Thats Right, Coats!

It got cold at night there (daytime, too).

---------------------------------------------------------

We were given a tour of the Estate with several talks about the many aspects of the running of a very large Estate.

-------------------------------------------------

Do you remember the scene from "Rob Roy" where Liam Neeson is being drug to a meeting at a bridge? He was almost hanged when he fell into the water. Remember that? Well, here it is on the Estate.
What a photo opportunity!

---------------------------------------------------

I don't know what kind of a car it is, but I sure would like to know ! (drool, slobber, drool)
Sure is pretty!

-------------------------------------------------

That evening there was a Ceildhi, and was it fun! With fun there was food, songs, entertainment, kilts, a wedding party.......... all with plenty of good Scotch, Tennant's, Scotch, Guinness's and Scotch.

---------------------------------------------

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a'waltzing ..........
You'll never know what the Austrailans will come up with. They actually serenaded everyone with their versions of celtic songs. Don't tell them but I did enjoy hearing this.

-----------------------------------------------

Did I mention that I (shown here) really enjoy beer? Especially Guinness, followed by more Guinness, then still more Guinness then topped off with a good scotch. Incidentally, that's a Clark Tartan that I'm wearing, and it's adorned with a real granddaddy skunk sporin.

---------------------------------------------------------

the second day
That's Paul and Diana Hollis in front of me shown treking to the activities at the Estate on the start of the 2nd day. ---------------------------------------------

Here is the Lochiel and Lady Margaret at the start of the second day.

The Camerons and the Campbells are still battling.

At the start of the clan review, my son is carrying the standard for the United States. Also in the photo are the standards for Australia and Canada as well. Not in this photo but with us at the gathering are the standards for the United Kingdom and Europe. ....................................................................

......The Lord of the Estate, his son, Donald the Younger, and his grandson, Andrew. Angus will be the future Lochiel.
......Incidentally, look in the background and there is my wife, Vicki, my son Steward, myself and Paul Hollis.

........................................................................

..... The Establishment of a new Chapter of Clan Cameron, The Mid-Atlantic Chapter. This chapter will be a welcomed addition to Clan Cameron. ...................................................................

Vicki and Steward with the Lochiel. ..................................................................

Paul and Diana Hollis have the ear of the Lochiel for a few minutes.

.................................................................

To keep any program going you need to keep the youngsters involved. From LOCHABER HIGH SCHOOL the Lochaber High School Pipe Band. This Band has competed on several levels including the Best Of The Nation.

..............................................................

The other Pipe Band, who continually play for the glory of listening to the music and to keep the music alive.

......................................................................... ......... ........

the third day

The Church service was held at the Estate's own chapel. A truly enchanting and lovely little chapel whose only road was a path, barely large enough for a single car, but it is sufficient for all the people in the area. .....................................................................................

Inside was the classic simple interior of a good chapel. A small raised worship center, a piano (on the right), a small example of our faith in the center and sufficient seating for the congregation. The crowd dwarfed the room by spilling out of the chapel to hear the sermon. ,,................................................................

This is SHINTY, it's a combination of lacrosse, baseball and soccer with sticks, (legalized violence!). With giving blood thrown in for the fun of it. Actually it's pretty exciting with an element of luck to it. Fort William, I beleive, won the match. .............................................................

And of course, not one of us lost the ability to drink. Thoughout the entire time, we never lost the ability to turn down a good drink. Or a bad one. Or a good one. Or a bad one. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! ...........................................................................

There was even entertanment at the B-B-Que after the game, a piper and a member of Fort William's own winning team played the Accordian. (Incidentally, they were a quite well lubricated pair as well.)

....................................................................

From all of us, we hope you had as much fun looking at these photos as we had in making them.
